Summary:
The United Way of Allegheny County is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. The United Way of Allegheny County collects information from our users at several different points on our web site. We believe that knowing more about you will enable us to serve you better by personalizing the content and services we can offer.

We collect and use information in the following three areas:

1. Registration/Subscription
You may choose to become a registered user of our site to receive special benefits and services that will provide you with a more personalized experience. If you wish to take advantage of this service, we will ask you to provide us with some personal information.

  • Information Collected:
We collect your name, password, e-mail address, birth date, and home ZIP code (for U.S. residents only). We collect your birth date to maintain the privacy of those under 13. In order to help you remember your site password and thereby maintain your personalization, we also ask you to choose a secret question and to submit the answer to that question. In addition, you can choose to supply optional information, including your areas of interest related to your community's health and human service needs, so that we can help give you the information you desire.
  • How the Information is Used:
Registration information is primarily used to provide you with a more personalized experience. The information may also be disclosed for general reporting and site statistics, but you will never be personally identified.

A member Name is required for login and is used to personalize the site. A Password is also required for login. You are the only one who has access to this information. We highly recommend that you keep any references to this information in a safe place, choose a password that would be hard for others to guess (don't use anything obvious, like your birthday), and change it as often as you like. Passwords are CASE SENSITIVE for an additional layer of security.

Your E-mail address is used to send you information related to your giving or volunteer activities or to give you information relative to specified interests. You will not receive unsolicited email from us unless you specifically give us permission to contact you via email. You will always have the option to unsubscribe from receiving future emails by modifying your profile.

2. Online Pledging:
You may choose to make a charitable gift through the United Way of Allegheny County web site to a variety of health and humanitarian agencies. We are able to direct your dollars to the choices you indicate during your gift transaction. The pledge transaction occurs on secure pages of the site using SSL technology, the accepted standard for secure web transactions.

• Information Collected:
We request specific information from customers when they desire to pledge online. A customer must provide information related to the transaction such as an address for billing and gift acknowledgment, pledge amount, recipient choice information and payment information.

This information is used for billing purposes and to complete the customer's transaction. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with the user. The total gift and choice information is used by United Way of Allegheny County for reporting purposes. In addition, we can use this information to personalize your future visits.

Unless you instruct us not to, we will provide the recipient agency with your name, address, and the amount pledged, so that the agency can thank you for your contribution. We may also provide the recipient agency with your e-mail address.

If you decide to nominate an agency that is not on list of agencies, you may write your nominee's information in during the agency selection. The nominated agency information is then used for contacting that agency for verification and that they meet eligibility criteria. If this agency is not eligible for a gift through the United Way of Allegheny County, you will be notified for further action.

• How the Information is Used:

Campaign Reports Provided to Companies
Specifically for employees of companies running ePledge campaigns

When a traditional campaign (using pledge cards) is conducted, the company conducting the campaign administers this process through the use of the pledge card. The company tabulates each card and completes a campaign report form. The company sends the information to United Way along with copies of the pledge form. This form enables the company to track its progress and also maintains a record of each employee pledge so that the company is able to determine campaign results, as well as issues that are important to its employees. It also provides data for employee’s inquiries regarding how much they pledged and who they designated in previous campaigns.

A company’s use of epledge diminishes its ability to track results and have information available to answer employee inquiries. As a result, United Way provides online campaign reports to the companies that conduct full epledge campaigns (all pledges received online) or combination campaigns (pledges submitted by cards and epledge) to give those companies the information necessary to properly manage those campaigns. The campaign reports are stored on a secure server and passwords are required to access the reports.

The following details the information contained in epledge campaign reports.

1.
2. Reports that Summarize Information
1. Summary Reports
2. Designation Reports
3. Leadership Prospect Reports

The Summary Reports provide various aggregated information on number of employees, number of cards returned, number of gifts, and gift amounts and some calculated fields on department performance such as percent of participation, average gift and per-capita gift. These reports do not list the contributors’ individual names.

The Designation Reports include the agency name and total amount designated for all contributions from locations of the company. These reports do not list the contributors’ individual names but do account for all the dollars raised in a company location or in a United Way’s identified service area for the company locations.

The Leadership Prospect Reports provide various aggregated information on number of employees, number of cards returned, number of gifts, and gift amounts, and some calculated fields on campaign performance such as percent of participation, average gift and per-capita gift. The key sort field of these reports is a “leadership prospect flag” provided by the company. This flag is similar in usage to location or department flags in other summary level reports and is used to aggregate information about employees the company considers prospects to make a leadership level gift. These reports do not list the contributors’ individual names.

No personally identifiable information is contained in any of the summary level reports.

3. Reports at the Detailed Data Level
1. Campaign “IN” Reports
2. Campaign “OUT” Reports
3. Leadership Giver Reports

“IN” and “Leadership Givers” reports provide on a location, department, and cost center basis (or other code as identified by the company) detailed gift information at the donor level for all employees who have made an online gift or returned a pledge card with either a contribution or pledge refusal. The report can be provided with names only or with contributions by name.

“OUT” reports provide on a location, department, cost center basis, or other code as identified by the company, prior year gift information at the donor level for all employees who have NOT yet made an online gift or returned a pledge card with either a contribution or pledge refusal. The report is available with names only or with prior year gift amounts included with individual names.

Leadership Giver Reports provide on a location, department, cost center basis (or other code as identified by the company) detailed gift information at the donor level for all employees who are identified by the company as “leadership gift prospects” and have made an online gift or returned a pledge card with either a contribution or pledge refusal. The report is available with contributions by name or with the names only.

Regional/National Company Campaigns – United Way of Allegheny County will, upon request and at the specific direction of a company, provide detail of employee gifts from work locations in the United Way service area (as defined by the United Way associated with the work location zip code based on United Way of America’s GiftLink tool) to the company or the local United Way. This data will be in standard format. Designation detail is considered private information and is not provided to the company, other United Ways, or other third parties.

Company Campaign Data – A company may request, and United Way of Allegheny County will provide detail of employee gifts from that company. This data will be provided upon request in a standard format. Designation detail is considered private information and is not provided to the company, other United Ways, or other third parties.

For purposes of completing payroll deduction withholdings, United Way of Allegheny County will provide the company with all relevant and necessary information (but not including designation detail) required for the company to establish payroll deduction withholdings in keeping with the donors expressed desire to make a gift to United Way using payroll deduction.

Profile, Security, And More:

• Access to your profile information:
Some information is required for your free United Way account, but you will have access to the profile information we collect, including the ability to review, and modify information that is captured in your profile.
• Security:
This web site takes every precaution to protect our users' information. When you submit sensitive information via the web site, your information is protected both online and off-line.

We have installed a number of security measures to protect the confidentiality of your personal information:

• We have a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to our systems.

• Your membership information lives on a separate database server that sits behind this firewall. We further safeguard your information with an encryption technology called Secure Socket Layer (SSL). SSL encryption protects any personal information you send over the Internet by making it impossible for that information to be deciphered by any systems other than the ones we use.

• The United Way of Allegheny County has developed a registration/login process so that your personal profile is password protected. You are the only one who has access to your personal information. You should always log out when you're done with your session to ensure that others cannot access your account.

• When our registration and pledging form asks users to enter sensitive information such as addresses, credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - SSL. While on a secure page, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just "surfing".

• While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect access to user-information off-line. All of our users' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information.

• Session Timeout:
Our web site has session timeout of 30 minutes. This means that if there is no activity under your user id for a period of 30 minutes, then your session will automatically end. If your session ends, you may login to the site to start another session.

• Opt-in Policy:
During the registration process and profile modification, our users are given the opportunity to "opt-in" to identify interests and receive future information. By allowing users to opt-in, we believe our customers have maximum control. You will always have the option to unsubscribe from receiving future information by modifying your profile.

• Customers under the age of 13:
As a general rule, United Way of Allegheny County does not collect information from anyone under the age of 13 and therefore will not accept registrations by people under that age. However, because we cannot ensure that our visitors will enter their registration information truthfully, we cannot reasonably stop all children under 13 from using our services.

• Browser Information:
We automatically gather standard web server and visitor traffic information, such as the type of browser you are using, the previous site you visited, and the next site you visit after leaving our web site.

• Monitoring the success of the Information and Referral searches:
We track successful and failed keyword searches to enhance the site's capability for future searches. We do not track searches at the user level; however, we will look at overall statistics on which searches are used most often and which keywords need to be added to our searching capability for future lookups.

• Cookies:
