Job Objective:

Major Gifts Officer is primarily responsible for developing and managing relationships with specific assigned donors with the capacity to give $10,000 or more on an annual basis.  This position will provide planning, coordinating, follow-up and implementation of donor engagement strategies for one-to-one contact with high net worth.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Initiate contacts with potential Tocqueville level donors
    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
    • Make solicitations when appropriate
    • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
  • On an ongoing basis, utilize staff and volunteer resources to enhance philanthropic gift opportunities and options and increase donor’s (and prospects) involvement, if appropriate
  • Secure new or increased gifts for the campaign
  • Design highly customized donor engagement plans for assigned donors in collaboration with other Development staff and United Way departments
  • Provide support for major donors by closely working with Workplace staff and facilitating a positive, coordinated representation for the donor
  • As a member of the Major Gifts team, develop volunteer management plan that leverages resources and compliments a variety of volunteer strengths and opportunities in prospecting, cultivating, soliciting and strategic planning
  • Ensure the creation and implementation of a personalized donor recognition program for assigned donors
  • Achieve established fund raising and membership goals
  • Coordinate and assist in the planning, along with the other staff members, recognition and prospecting events focused on the two leadership groups.
  • To maintain a thorough level of knowledge on UWAC critical need issues, including understanding the need, the initiatives and agencies supported
  • Able to articulate the case for support so that individuals "buy in" to the vision/mission/goals and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.

 

Skills Required:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interface with lead volunteers and CEO-level volunteers
  • Strategic planning and budget management experience
  • Work also involves prospect research, special events planning, volunteer management, educational programming and entrepreneurial drive.

Education:  Bachelor Degree required (Minimum)

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of fundraising experience within a medium to large organization and 1-2 years of major gifts experience.
