Pittsburgh Steelers and United Way "team up"

This fall, the Pittsburgh Steelers and United Way of Allegheny County are teaming up for Back to Football Friday, an exciting campaign to advance youth health and wellness as a national priority. As a participant city of this national effort, we are encouraging fans of all ages to show their Steelers’ team pride at work on September 10 in celebration of the start of the NFL season and to join our efforts to end childhood obesity. As a partner company of United Way, we wanted to make sure you had a personal invitation to participate. This is a great opportunity to show the rest of the country that Steeler fans are not only the most enthusiastic, dedicated fans but also that you are caring and compassionate about the community and United Way.
By encouraging your employees to wear their black and gold to work on Friday, September 10, you’re providing a fun way to transfer the passion of Steelers fans to United Way’s work. Take great pictures of your colleagues in action. Submit up to 3 pictures of your event at unitedway.org/backtofootball for a chance to win a party hosted by the NFL.
Some ideas of how your company can participate:
- Encourage friendly competition among departments for office bragging rights and prizes
- Host a tailgate cook-off for staff with culinary skills. Sell the participants delicious creations as a special event fundraiser for your upcoming campaign.
- Organize a lunch hour power walk
- Host a contest: craziest fan, best end-zone dance, best cheer
- Host a tailgate party or pep rally in your parking lot (include healthy options)
- Decorate your office with team colors and paraphernalia. Best decorated department wins a healthy lunch, provided by the company.
- Post a super fan photo board in the cafeteria
United Way is creating opportunities for a better life for all. We invite you to be a part of the change. Participating in Back to Football Friday is a great way to help United Way support youth while demonstrating your love for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sincerely,
Arthur J. Rooney II Robert Nelkin
President, Pittsburgh Steelers President, United Way of Allegheny County
